  • Why choose Columbus Mahjong Society?

    • We have the most extensive event options in the greater Columbus area. We can host up to 120 guests (possibly more with notice) and have more than 20 years of teaching and event experience. We're also the lowest priced option. We believe in spreading the passion for mahjong and removing barriers to access to the best of our ability.​
       

  • How long are mahjong events?

    • Length varies depending on group size and content but we typically recommend between 2 to 3 hours.​
       

  • What is the average cost?

    • We will try our best to accommodate your budget. Use $40 per person as a general guide.​
       

  • How many instructors do you bring?

    • ​One instructor can teach 16 students easily. We bring a second instructor or helper when we have larger groups. Additional instructors and helpers are included in our prices. 
       

  • What materials and equipment are typically provided?

    • ​Each group of players needs racks, mahjong tiles, dice and NMJL cards (one per player). We also bring instructional guides to keep, beautiful mats, stylized tiles, trinkets for winners, and can provide a few giveaways to elevate the experience. We provide it all, you just bring the people!
       

  • What type of space and set up is necessary?

    • Mahjong requires at least a 31" x 31" play area and seating for four players, one on each side. Square, round, or rectangular tables all work, provided the tabletop accommodates the play area and all four players. The space should be quiet enough for students to hear but can still be lively and fun. We are happy to review the space for recommendations but are confident we can make almost any space work. We can also assist in finding a location.
       

  • Do you provide door prizes?

    • We're happy to make recommendations or work with you to find the best option. We highly recommend and can provide a full set plus private lessons for four as a door prize at a discount price of $200 (retail value of $400). The prize would include:

      • Traditional mahjong tiles, racks, dice and bag (retail price $125)

      • 4 NMJL cards (retail price $60 and cannot be discounted per NMJL)

      • Matching dice dish and tile shufflers (retail price $55)

      • Private lessons for four (retail price $160)
